Maybe this is nothing new, but lately we’ve seen ads from entertainment companies seeking soloists, duos, and bands to play for free at exotic resorts worldwide.  These are the same places that previously paid their musicians, but now they are just giving the players a free vacation.

Apparently the performers receive all meals and drinks, all of the resort amenities, and a private room, (even a friend/wife/partner is allowed), for no charge.  All you have to do is play a two hour set every day, strictly covers, for the vacationers staying at the resort.

The Good:  everything is free, you play just two hours daily to a revolving happy crowd, enjoy a high class resort, meet lots of people, and maybe the gig will look good on your resume.

The Bad: no money, and you have to pay your own way, (probably airfare) to and from the resort.

Could this be the next method for obtaining musicians to play on cruise ships?  What do you think of this?
